this week we learned more about the pecha kucha presentations that we are working on. how to use concise images to get the idea across without taking the audience's attention away from the speaker. i must admit I still don't completely know what i am doing but i will find out. the presentation part of it seems pretty straight forward, ten slides each lasting twenty second. the part i'm having trouble with right now is the paper we have to wright to organize our thoughts so we can speak fluidly and concisely during our presentations so we don't fall behind or get too far ahead of ourselves.
This week we read our book in preparation for making our pechicuhy presentation., I don't think i spelt it right. oh well. we spent most of our time in the library reading. i was reading the kite runner. a pretty good book about a afghan boy growing up and facing hardships in his life. such as watching his best friend since birth get beaten and raped, having to face the guilt of just standing there and watching. this week we learned how to read a book for information. how to skim through and get the "just" of what the book is saying. we did several different types of note taking. other than that we didn't really do much. its been a pretty boring week. we go down to the media center and lay around reading the entire hour, reading and trying not to fall asleep. we did learn a little more about shared leadership. and time management skills. this week we did a lot of note taking. we received our dystopian books, i chose to read the kite runner by khaled hosseini. i chose it because i remember my aunt reading it a long time ago and that she really liked it. we watched a ted talk on how coding can improve civilization, making governments run more efficiently and getting citizens more involved in maintaining their local area. it was very intresting This week we learned about the importance and implications of shared leadership. shared leadership divides the power of a government among officials and that country's citizens. doing so allows each part of the government to monitor and criticize the actions of another part. it basically prevents any one branch or individual in the government from becoming too powerful. without shared leadership the government would start acting like a single entity and not like the multiple entities our government is made of. Power would eventually collect on to one branch or individual. then the individual would use this power to reflect his or her thoughts, not the thoughts of many controlling what happens but the thoughts of one. https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/cutting-edge-leadership/200908/how-power-corrupts-leaders again this week we didn't do much other than scramble to work on our this i believe essay/ presentation. i don't think any of us actually worked on it over winter break so we are all kinda behind. it took some getting used to, coming back to school, Monday was absolutely horrible. having to get up at six instead of sleeping in till 10:00. thank god its Friday!!!!!!!
this week we the elements of a story and how each element gave the story more power. we watched a ted talk about how to tell a story. we began work on our "i chose to believe" presentations. we created a rubric to base our presentations off of. i decided to do mine about hard work because well that a pretty easy subject for me to talk about and its something that i truly believe in. we watched a quick tutorial on how to use wevideo. the service that allows us to individually make our videos. its kinda cool actually this week we as a class we went over the syllabus. which dears a striking resemblance to the syllabus of every other english class i have had, no suprise there. the next day we went over the ten rules of being human, reading these rules helped me to identify a little better others, seeing that we all abide by these ten simple rules no matter who we are or where we come from was very humbling. On wednesday the class did a free writing experiment. the only instructions were that we could not stop writing no matter what. in doing this experiment it showed me just how much my mind jumps from one topic to another with seemingly no trouble at all. I wonder if that is why i have such a hard time staying on topic when writing a formal paper, or for that matter any paper. More self realizations happening. At this rate i am going to have to write a book to keep track of all of the things i am learning about myself. On thursday we went over the power of a story. Reading this or for a matter listening to it, showed me how much a simple story could help any person reading it, remember a whole plethora of facts as long as the story being told has flow. I have been using stories to convey facts for quite a while, but i only did it because it made the paper i was writing feel better. class sight |
